Japan has a long history of brewing world-class sake and shochu and craft beer has come on to the scene in Japan in a big way. Local craft beer breweries are popping up in rural areas where access to clean water and fresh ingredients create fertile grounds for making some great beer. American brewers and Japanese brewers have collaborated on some interesting brews and the influences are seen in both places as Japanese beers are now at many of the major international beer festivals and American craft brewers living in Japan and visiting have had a significant influence on the craft beer scene in Japan.
